Some people say that Dosa was invented in Udupi. A very interesting story. It is said that there was a very junior priest, when he had just become a priest, then one day he felt that he should drink alcohol. He tried to make alcohol by fermenting rice but he did not agree to it.

So he made a pancake from the paste of the fermented rice which is called Dosa because he had that Dosh in his mind, so whatever the Dosa was, because of the Dosh, that’s how Dosa was formed. This what People say about Dosa!!

Ingredients

  • For Dosa Batter
  • 1 ½ cups - Semolina

  • 1 ½ cups - Curd

  • 1 cup - Water

  • 2 tbsp - Poha (soaked)

  • 1 tsp - Sugar

  • Salt

  • 3 tbsp - Roasted chana dal

  • ¼ tsp - Baking soda or Eno

  • 1 tsp - Oil

  • For Allam Chutney
  • 2-3 tbsp Oil

  • 2 tbsp - Urad dal

  • 2 tbsp - Chana dal

  • 1 tbsp - Coriander seeds

  • ½ tsp - Cumin seeds

  • 7-8 no.- Kashmiri red chillies

  • 2 inch Ginger (peeled & roughly sliced)

  • 4-5 no. - Garlic cloves 

  • Curry leaves

  • ¼ cup - Jaggery

  • 2 tbsp - Tamarind

  • Salt

  • Prepared Tadka

  • For Aloo Masala
  • 2-3 tbsp - Oil

  • ¼ tsp - Urad dal

  • ¼ tsp - Chana dal

  • ½ tsp - Mustard seeds

  • A pinch of Asafoetida

  • Green chilly 

  • Curry leaves

  • 1 - Large sliced onion

  • 1 tsp - Turmeric powder

  • Salt

  • 3-4 large boiled & mashed Potatoes

Directions

  • For Dosa Batter
  • In a large bowl, add semolina, curd, water, soaked poha, sugar, salt, roasted chana dal and mix it well.

  • Now Transfer this instant dosa batter into a mixer grinder jar and grind it until smooth consistency.

  • Next step is Add baking soda or eno, oil and give it a gentle mix.

  • And this dosa batter is ready!!

  • For Allam Chutney
  • In a pan add oil. 

  • When oil is hot add urad dal, chana dal, coriander seeds, cumin seeds, kashmiri red chillies, ginger, garlic, curry leaves and saute for a while.

  • Now our Chutney is almost ready. Let's transfer it in the bowl.

  • Now add Jaggery and soaked tamrind.

  • Now transfer this in the mixing jar and add salt as per your taste. 

  • Let's transfer it into Bowl. And Prepare Temper for it. 

  • For Temper, take one pan and add oil.

  • Add mustard seeds and curry leaves.

  • Now add button red chilli and temper this on the chutney.

  • For Aloo Masala
  • Take two three Boiled Smashed potatoes. 

  • In a pan add oil, once oil heated add urad dal, chana dal, curry leaves, green chillies and pinch of asafoetida.

  • Now add onion and saute for while after that add salt.

  • For next step is add turmeric powder and Potatoes.

  • And your Aloo stuffing is ready!!

  • For Instant Dosa
  • For perfect dosa, Take iron tawa or non-stick pan.

  • Spread dosa batter on heated tawa

  • And cook it until bubbles came on spread. 

  • When it cooked properly add butter or oil on top.

  • And your perfect soft Dosa is ready. Serve it with Aalam chutney and aloo masala. 

    FAq fOR instant dosa

    Definitely Yes, It is very good for health because it is made without fermentation. 

    No Dosa is not healthier than Roti. But you can prefer it as it is good for digest system.
